SERVE
There are many ways all year long to get involved in the work of the church! Some tasks are small, others are larger and require a specific skill set. Some are to be done only once, others are ongoing. Where might God be calling you to serve? Take a look to see where you might use your gifts of time and talent!
WORSHIP LEADING OPPORTUNITIES
There are many ways to serve in the 10:00 a.m. worship service. We need people to give the Children's Message, read Scripture, prepare and serve Communion, acolyte (grades 3-12), and more. If you are interested, please contact our Director of Worship Arts.
OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to the outreach opportunities mentioned above, Clarendon UMC has need of your assistance in myriad ways! Please fill our our Wish To Serve form to find out how you can help out around the church.
CHRISTMAS TREE and WREATH SALES
Clarendon UMC provides a beautiful selection of Christmas trees and wreaths for sale each year with proceeds benefiting Arlington THRIVE. The Sale begins the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
PLOT AGAINST HUNGER GARDEN
CUMC provides fresh produce to clients at Arlington Food Assistance Center with its garden on the grounds of the church. With an expanded raised bed, we are able to harvest tomatoes, beans, lettuce, and squash of various kinds. We are able to walk it into our own church and distribute on Saturday mornings to those who need some extra food. We can always use extra help during the summer months when our garden is flourishing! If you would like to join in this outreach effort by weekly watering, harvesting, or trimming plants, please contact the church office.
ARLINGTON BUNNY HOP
Begun in 2018, this annual event provides people of all ages with a fun way to enjoy a healthy, spring weather activity together and to raise support for local Arlington charities. Over 600 people (including racers, volunteers, and entertainers) participated during the inaugural Hop and all net proceeds from the race (more than $9,000) were donated to Bridges to Independence. Learn more at www.arlingtonbunnyhop.org
RISE AGAINST HUNGER
Periodically, Clarendon UMC will work with Rise Against Hunger to package meals for those in need. Rise's goal is to end world hunger by 2030.
WINGS OF CARING
Clarendon UMC supports our missionary, pilot Jacques Umembudi Akasa, a "bush pilot" who serves in the Wings of Caring mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Jacques helps deliver medical supplies and care for those in the inner reaches of this country.
Bridges to Independence
Bridges to Independence leads individuals and families
out of homelessness and into stable, independent futures. Clarendon UMC supports Bridges to Independence through proceeds raised with the Arlington Bunny Hop.
Doorways for Women
Doorways for Women transforms the lives of adults, youth, and children who are facing homelessness or suffering abuse in our community. They help our most vulnerable neighbors survive crisis, rebuild their lives and achieve brighter futures.
Meals on Wheels
Clarendon UMC has provided volunteers with Meals on Wheels to deliver meals to those in the community who cannot shop or cook for themselves for over 40 years. We currently deliver meals to one the routes in North Arlington once a week. Each team has a 1-2 hour commitment at noon once a month. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, contact Archie Sabin, our coordinator.
